Mixed Media Canvas Creation by Texas Artist M. Allison

M. Allison

As my very wise Bawmaw used to say, "There's More Than One
Way to Skin a Cat".  Amazing how often one can use this cliche.
I took all the strips of canvas I've cut off of my paintings to meet the
size of the stretchers, and covered this chair with them.
How cool is this?
Note the stained and glazed concrete floor and wonderful
barn door.  Tell you what, I do a lot more than just paint fine art!

'Gaity' Oil and Acrylic Painting In 'From Within' style by Texas Artist M. Allison finds a home!

'Gaity'

M. Allison
contact me for purchase or commission:  allison@mallisonartist.com  713.240.4221

You're probably wondering what my From Within style is so I will give you a
little explanation:  There are actually 2 paintings here, one on the bottom and another
on the top.  I choose what I want from the underpainting using a product and then
redesign it for the finished painting.  See it to believe it.  I am doing a workshop on
this technique at the Green House Gallery November 30th and December 1
in Houston.  Sign up!  Too bad about the accent light on the ceiling - it looks great
in the room, but diminishes some of the art in the photo.

Seems as though I keep taking photos of things in my own home.
Pretty soon, like now, I'm going to run out of things!  I just installed
barn doors (or I should say, my sweet son did) and I do have little
ones scurrying around.

I've always loved to paint folds, so here you go.  I've taken lots of
photos of my very own bedroom and you'll see more in the future.
By the way, I really don't have a red wall in my room, but I think
this works really well in the painting.  This painting also has a
fun, fabulous frame made of old shutter slats.  I had to do something
with the doors that were literally falling apart!
Waste not, want not!

A Collectors' view of Texas Artist M. Allison showing 'My Balloons and Me'

One of my collectors has written this email to me
and I love to know the thoughts they have about
my art!

Most of your art that I have seen (emails) always seems to show colors that are soothing not harsh. The subject matter seems to be people having quiet moments that are enjoyable (child with balloons).  Maybe I haven’t seen your “wild” side of painting. I also find it interesting that the subjects don’t have faces. It has the effect of being able to put your self into the painting or someone you know. I don’t know if that makes any sense but remember I am an accountant not an art critic.

I like his accountant 'art critic' sense!

Well...I decided to do this in thinned oils using the
pencil as shadowing.  I can always go back and heavy
it up with thick oils.  Apologies for the 'snapshot'.  Blurry and
not a great photo and uncropped at that!

First Stage Figurative Pencil Sketch by Texas Artist M. Allison

This is the first time I have posted art in the stages
I work in.  I grabbed a canvas and began to sketch, which
I love to do.  Now...I can't decide what to do with this.
I can leave it alone or use thinned oils and let the pencil be an
integral part of the painting, or maybe do it in heavy oils.
Stay tuned.

I have begun yet another 'series' and that is clothes that I choose
to call 'Frocks".  Problem is, what do I call the men's frocks?
Certainly not 'frocks' so any suggestions would be much appreciated!
This is fun - I just peruse my closet and drag out something and hang it up!
I plan on doing a commission for a friend that has requested
I paint her wedding dress.  I have made, yes made, frames for these
'frocks' from old shutter slats and I love them!  So... now I'm a carpenter!
Will post photo of those later.

I'm hooked on these old doors!  Done in
acrylic and texture, these take a while to
measure and get the proportions right,
but they dry fast.  Since I usually paint
in oil, this is a treat.  This is part of my
'Door Series', such a clever name!

a little realism.

The collaged background of this painting is done in an old
yellowed dress pattern I found of my grandmother's (Bawmaw)
who used to make all my clothes.  It seemed perfect
for this subject because I knew I wanted
to paint her enveloped in a wrap.  She needs a dress,
don't you think?
